What's your side quest?
(+ lots of old blog updates)
I love reframing old, sometimes boring, ideas into something slightly new.
The side quest is one of those things.
A side quest is an alternative pursuit or a complementary path to your main quest. It’s usually attached to some dream, interest or curiosity.
Everyone knows about side gigs, side hustles and turning passions into profit. These things are ubiquitous — so much so that they sometimes lose their luster.
Side quests are refreshing and more journey-focused. They feel less serious and more like playful testing…which can be more adventurous and creative.
For example, I have main quests (like my blog and music). But I’ve been exploring a few side quests recently:
My art
Writing different musical styles and uses for it
My new blog, which is an offshoot of my main one (see here: quinjef.com)
Side quests aren’t less important either. Sometimes, they become a part of your main quests, or help you make important decisions and pivots.
And sometimes, side quests become more meaningful. This is especially true if you’re just starting out and/or have a job that’s sorta shit or isn’t fulfilling.
But here’s the important takeaway: everyone should have side quests.
Life is meant to be explored and tried. Failing and getting mud on the face and scrapes along the way is what makes the story good. And at the end of it all, as long as I can at least say “well, I tried”, that should be enough.
Side quests are opportunities to explore new ideas, rogue interests, your inner child, moments of clarity, random paths, new personas, new skills, something different…
It’s easy to get lost in our main quest and get too narrow in focus, potentially missing cool detours or different opportunities. There’s a time for focus and a time for play — it’s an art balancing the two, but side quests help.
So, what’s your side quest?

NOTE: I’m currently concentrating a lot on updating old posts and finishing my rebranding work (new images; rewrites; moving/deleting old posts; etc.). I’ll be writing new content too, but you can expect more updates too.
Okay, bye!
