That random weekend side quest has value
(everything is connected)
It’s the weekend. Huzzah.
And you’ve found a new calling — a new life purpose. A sudden passion that you’re deeply invested in.
But you’ve been here before, haven’t you.
The initial spark, the hyper-focused planning and buying of materials. The excitement and intense sessions of new skill-building.
But it doesn’t last. Focus fades and interest inches away, and you’re left with yet another unfinished project.
This is the random weekend side quest — a multi-passionate reality.
But good news, it’s not wasted energy.
With so many amazing things to do and shiny objects to play with, it’s easier than ever to fall down a rabbit hole.
Tenfold if you’re already multi-passionate and curious by nature.
But usually, these side-quest moments are framed as being a waste of time — negative and full of distraction. Random detours that never get finished.
But what if they aren’t wasted energy?
What if we can extract the meaningful parts and leverage our rabbit holes for more clarity, skill acquisition and authenticity? I think we can.
This is, after all, the formula for how dots connect in unique ways.
Turn Your Rabbit Holes Into Productivity
Before anything else, a perspective shift is required.
So accept and believe this:
Your random weekend side quests — those rabbit holes, intense passion shopping, etcetera — are all (or can be) connected and leveraged.
Transferrable skills and insights are often missed and mislabeled as distractions — compartmentalized into different buckets that cannot talk to each other or share ideas and develop friendships.
That’s all BS though.
If the science of the universe has taught me anything, it’s that everything is connected.
This means that whatever you spend your time tinkering on does add to and strengthen your unified pool of unique value, insights, skills and experiences in life.
The problem is that those connections aren’t always obvious or visible. It takes patience and awareness.
But trust me, they are there.
Everything Is Connected (examples)
To start seeing connections between randomness more easily, some examples will help.

Chase those side quests if you feel called to do something. Just stay aware of the connection paradigm.
Look for through lines, themes and opportunities to transfer skills and insights — find ways to stack your ideas and many passions.
And don’t be afraid of a good pivot, or the need to put a project on pause so you can explore something new.
Multi-passionate living is a skill and an art form.
