For epic creativity, be a beginner

"stumble with a smile"

Hey! Welcome. This is my first newsletter.

As such, I think we should talk about creative beginnings.

Because creative beginnings are the first steps to doing anything you want.

They’re easy. They’re hard. And they’re incredibly awkward (especially if you’re already skilled in other areas of your craft).

But the truth is, it’s absolute confidence to be a beginner.

We feel pressure to look epic, curated and virtuoso-like. But that takes a while. There are no shortcuts…

So instead, be totally stoked on being a beginner.

Beginnership is creative bravery and you’re putting yourself ahead of the curve.

When I started learning music production (after 20+ years of songwriting), I felt like a complete idiot.

(I still do some days…)

But to pursue my creative projects (and to grow as an artist), I needed to level up. Creativity and dreamy ideas are always evolving and developing. So skill building will never end either.

Fall in absolute love with beginnership and stumble with a smile.

The secret to expertise is to be a beginner.

So go start something (and look like an idiot).

Now cheers to you, you creative anarchist.
