Defining the artist
(+ the last phase of my rebrand)
Let’s define the artist. Here’s my take:
You are a culture-creator. A part of society’s writing team.
In Rick Rubin’s book, he talks about the naïveté we can have, misunderstanding the role we’re playing and its full impact.
He uses the bee as an example.
The bee hops from one flower to the next, inadvertently helping these plants to reproduce. This pollination is key to a functioning ecosystem. Without the bees, things would get ugly.
And yet, the bee is unaware. It’s driven to do what it does, but is blind to its important role.
I think the artist is similar.
We make, create and share, sometimes without metrics, validation or any clues that what we’re doing is making any splash anywhere.
It’s hard to know your true impact.
But even just a single stitch — often unnoticed — in the cloth that is culture, matters as a whole. Because without that one stitch, the whole things can start to unravel. Like how a small crack in the windshield gets bigger if neglected.
So, are we like bees?
Big or small, the impact you make is meaningful. But sometimes, often, we miss it. Or don’t believe in our true power.
I wrote about this briefly in my post on why art has the power to change the world.
So who is the artist?
A cultural pollinator. An interpreter of creative signals, building society, one stitch at a time — and always a part of something bigger.
But usually unaware.
Personal Brand Update: Phase 3/3
If you read some of my older posts/newsletters, you’ll know I’ve been rebranding, updating stuff and moving things around.
Here’s a quick recap:
Changed blog name: ‘JakeYou’ —> Jef Quin
Moving all music and art posts to new site —> quin jef
Updating all old posts
And recently, I’ve finally started working on the last phase of this rebrand. And that required just one more website (I know, I have a problem lol).
I’m in the process of moving all of my creative entrepreneurial posts to quin creativ.
So here’s a breakdown of my sites and content organization:
jef quin — travel / lifestyle
quin jef — music / art
quin creativ — creative entrepreneurship
All of the sites are under me and my personal brand, but they’re organized way better now.
I love all of these things — so while I may spread myself too thin sometimes, it’s all creative play for me.
Why three different websites?
Given my range of topics, I was running into a lot of issues (especially with SEO, creating offers, building lists, organization, etc.).
Now, I can better organize topics, improve my topical authority and SEO performance for each individual blog, and create better offers.
So feel free to follow any of those sites depending on what you’re into!
But this newsletter will stay focused on creativity and carefreeness.
Alright, thanks for reading/listening!
Later ✌️
