(PrettyChill) AI videos, creativity + not caring at all

(+ 1 new post!)

Did you hear about OpenAI’s new text-to-video generator, Sora?

The internet’s abuzz and it’s pretty mind blowing. But it’s got some creators and artists worried.

But I don’t like that word — worry.

So naturally, I’m staying pretty chill about the whole thing.

I’m a musician, blogger and content creator. And it looks like AI can just do all of my creative work for me (often way “better” too).

This is concerning…right?

I mean, if everyone can just prompt an AI to make a beautiful film (or music, photos, blogs…) with little to no technical skills, then what’s the role of me…of you…of the human and of the artist?

Of course I feel for anyone who is a video editor or in a similar role that’s getting impacted by this in some way.

But from a macro perspective, I don’t really care.

Why?

Because we are each uniquely and amazingly weird.

We have individual creativity, authenticity, quirkiness, first-person experiences, stories and personal brand.

And even if AI develops all that too — it still can’t be you. My weirdness is mine.

Nobody has your unique blends of quirks, perspectives, life experiences, creative preferences, vision, nuance and messaging.

And by eliminating technical learning curves, AI is just making stuff (like creativity) more attainable, intuitive and quicker.

AI is getting rid of all the clutter and refocusing things on just creativity and the purity of the idea and the creator behind it.

Pretty tight.

Sure, you can tell an AI to make a video. But what’s the vision? Where’s the story and who’s the creative flavor?

You and your ideas are safe. They always were.

You are a personal brand — like it or not.

Even if AI becomes genuinely creative on its own, it’s just another artist doing their thing. So it doesn’t really matter.

I mean, just because we have Wes Anderson doesn’t mean that’s all we need. There will always be more artsy indie filmmakers to further the story. Of course there will be.

Creativity doesn’t have a cap. There is no destination and it’s open to everyone (and everything).

And worrying about it is like drinking imaginary poison.

“Worrying means you suffer twice.”

- Newt Scamander

So, AI — use it, learn it, ignore it…whatever, who cares. Just don’t worry about it.

Join me and stay super chill about this whole AI thing.

What do you think about it all?
