Minimalism = more carefree living

(+ 1 new post)

My whole life (the essentials) can fit into a single hard side suitcase, one carryon backpack and a small travel-sized guitar bag.

If I have these essentials, I’m happy. It’s enough and it lets me live the life I want to live (at least, for right now).

While this is an extreme example (as a traveling nomad), it highlights an important point.

Minimalism makes my life more carefree and me happier.

The basic idea behind minimalism (for carefreeness) is simple:

The more stuff you have, the more stuff you have to worry about.

So what’s the solution? Have less stuff.

Keep the essentials, and let everything else fall away. For me, the essentials are things that:

  • Bring me happiness

  • Are key to me reaching my goals

  • Are important for living, health, wellness and/or logistical stuff

While simple in theory, decluttering your life can also be difficult — even painful. But it’s liberating and segues perfectly into more chill living.

I’m not perfect either. But I don’t think you need to be.

Simply trying and staying aware of minimalist opportunities is enough.

So a “simple” way I like to start with minimalism is by deleting “redundancies”.

These are things that you need or bring you happiness, but you have too much of them (that you don’t need).

For example, my guitar brings me happiness and is essential for my creative goals and life.

But I don’t need multiple guitars — even though part of me wants that. I mean, having a wall of guitars, each with their own tuning and style of play, sounds great, but I really don’t need this (for my own musical purposes).

This would be a redundancy. My guitar is essential, but one is enough for my goals. I don’t need the stress of two+.

So how about you?

Is your life more minimalist or do you have a lot of redundancies and/or stuff you don’t actually need?

Try doing some decluttering — and then watch yourself become more carefree.

:]
